The Girls’ Water Polo team won its first league game of the season on Senior Day Jan. 10, beating Marymount 14-2 and extending their nine year undefeated streak in Mission league play.

Camille Oswald ’17, who was a key player in the Wolverine’s preseason, led the team with five goals. Along with leading the team on the scoresheet, Oswald recorded multiple assists. The team also benefitted from the addition of Paige Thompson ’17, who recently became eligible to play after serving her 30 day sit-out period as mandated by CIF guidelines for athletic transfers. Thompson scored one goal and had a number of strong passing plays.

The Wolverines also performed well defensively, holding the Sailors to two goals thanks to strong defensive performances from Izzy Wiesenthal ’17, Taylor Lacour ’19 and goalkeeper Emily Hilliard ’19.

The squad looked to bounce back after a performance Thompson deemed “inconsistent” in the Arroyo Grande High School Winter Classic Jan. 6-7. Looking ahead, the team looks to secure another win at their next game against Marlborough at home Jan. 12. The final goal for the Wolverines is be to secure the Mission League title for the 21st year in a row.
