The girls’ water polo team defeated Alemany 25-11 at home in their first league game tonight.

The Wolverines immediately took the lead and dominated the pool. The girls ended the first half leading 12-5 and continued to control the game. By the final goal, the squad doubled their lead with strong offensive maneuvers and a steady defense.

Although the girls played well, head coach Emily Greenwood thought the team could have improved their defense.

“We attack each game exactly the same,” Greenwood said. “Obviously, it is a great win but I wish we could have kept them to a lower score.”

Greenwood said the team was prepared for the match after defeating Alemany 21-3 during Mission League Finals last year.

The squad’s next game will be at Peninsula Highschool Jan 15 and their next league game will be against Louisville at home Jan 16.

“I am looking forward to the girls growing and us getting better each game,” Greenwood said. “We are really young, we have only one senior. It is cool to see our freshmen step up to the plate and have to play a lot of minutes in crucial games.”
