Gyllenhaal ’95 wins Golden Globe

Maggie Gyllenhaal ’95 won her first Golden Globe for Best Actress for TV movie or TV miniseries for “The Honourable Woman” on Sunday night.

Gyllenhaal has a total of four nominations and one Golden Globe award.

The show premiered on BBC Two on July 3, 2014 in the U.K. and on Sundance TV in the U.S. on July 31.

Gyllenhaal plays the lead role of Nessa Stein, an Anglo-Israeli businesswoman who became appointed a life peer.

“When I look around the room at the women who are in here and I think about the performances that I’ve watched this year, what I see actually are women who are sometimes powerful and sometimes not,” Gyllenhaal said after receiving her award. “Sometimes sexy, sometimes not. Sometimes honorable, sometimes not. And what I think is new s the wealth of roles for actual women in television and in film.”
