    Junior finishes international 1500-meter championship in fifth

    Cami Chapus ’12 finished the 1500-meter final Saturday in fifth place at the International Association of Athletics Federations’ World Youth Championships in Lille, France. Chapus ran a personal best with a time of 4:17.12. First place runner Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon, from Kenya, ran a time of 4:09.48.
     
    Chapus and middle distance runner Amy Weissenbach ’12 have competed this week with 39 other American runners against top under-17 runners from seven countries. Chapus ran against 11 other runners in today’s finals, after qualifying in a preliminary heat on Wednesday.
     
    Weissenbach will run the 800-meters finals at 8:30 AM on Sunday. Live results will be available at http://www.iaaf.org/live/wyc11/index.html.
