Junior makes U.S. physics team

Junior Andrew Lucas is one of 24 physics students in the country chosen for the U.S. Physics Team. The team is consists of the top 24 scorers out of 200 on a qualifying exam.  The top five physics students will represent the country at the International Physics Olympiad in Isfahan, Iran.

Lucas said he heard about the competition from AP Physics C teacher John Feulner only days before the qualifying exam.

“I generally like to take these competitions, since I figure only good can come out of it,” he said. Some obstacles made Lucas hesitant to enter, such as the dangers of competing in Iran.

“The green light to compete was almost not given by the people who run the U.S. Physics Team,” Lucas said.

He will go to the National Level Training Camp at U. of Maryland on May 22.
