After qualifying as a finalist earlier this month, Hank Adelmann â11 will compete for a spot on the U.S. National Biology team at the U.S. Biology Olympiad Finals June 6-18.
“Iâm taking Human Anatomy and AP Biology this year and I felt that those classes were preparation in and of themselves,” Adelmann said.
Adelmann and seven other Harvard-Westlake students qualified for the semifinals. The semifinal round consisted of a three-part test that lasted approximately two hours, which Adelmann and the others took after school one day in the library.
The 20 finalists from around the country will meet for a 10-day symposium and lab introduction at Purdue University in Lafayette, In. before taking the final exams. At the end of the two weeks, they will take two final exams, one practical and one theoretical.
The students with the four highest scores will represent the United States at the 2010 International Biology Olympiad in Changwon, Korea.
