Junior water polo player commits to UCLA

Starting center for the varsity water polo team Alec “Choma” Zwaneveld ’12 has committed to UCLA, the fourth ranked team in the nation.

Zwaneveld officially visited UCLA over winter break. Both of his parents attended UCLA and his older brother Brendan ’10 is current member of the squad.

“I’m a triple legacy there,” said Zwaneveld. “It would feel weird to go anywhere else.”

After the Wolverines’ loss in CIF playoffs this year to Mater Dei, the eventual CIF champions, Zwaneveld has been training with the Youth National Team as well as his club water polo team. He expressed excitement about next year’s team at Harvard-Westlake.

“Losing to the eventual CIF champions gives us something to keep our heads up with,” he said. “Next year, we’ll have a much older team and I think that will play as an advantage for us.”

Zwaneveld is unsure but hopeful about the amount of playing time he’ll have at UCLA. He does not know what he plans to study in college but is interested in film.
