Upperclassmen see Warner Bros’ ‘Great Gatsby’ screening

A handful of juniors and seniors attended a free screening of Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” May 17 at the Warner Bros. studio.

“The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald is read by both English 3 and English 3 honors classes.

“For many juniors, Gatsby stands out as their favorite book of the year. When I showed a trailer for the new film in class, students actually scolded me for talking while it was playing,” Olson said.

Chief Advancement Officer Ed Hu contacted Harvard-Westlake alumni at Warner Bros. to arrange the screening, Olson said.

“I’m thrilled to see the movie with students,” Olson said. “There seems to be a lot of excitement for a modern update of the film and I think the atmosphere of seeing it with students will be great. I anticipate some heated discussions ab out what they loved and what they hated on Monday morning.”
