The girls’ varsity basketball team’s 50-47 loss to Sierra Canyon today snapped its three year home win streak.
“We didn’t come out with much energy [or] much fight,” said team captain Leslie Schuman ’12, who lead the Wolverines with 24 points. “We weren’t boxing out or executing, and we just came out flat. It was frustrating. I wanted to come out and win our first game at home.”
In the first half, the Wolverines pushed the pace and connected on many of their shots, ending the half with a 28-17 lead. In the third quarter, however, they turned the ball over on almost every play, surrendering 20 unanswered Sierra Canyon points. The Wolverines lost their lead in the third and started the fourth quarter down 35-32.
With less than six minutes left in the game, the Wolverines climbed back into the game and were only down three. With four seconds left in the game, the girls down by two, Schuman got a trip to the charity stripe where she connected on one of two free throws. Shuman’s 24 points were not enough to take the lead, however, and the game ended 50-47.
“It’s rough. We just lost it,” co- captain Natalie Florescu ’13 said. “It’s hard that we lost that three year home streak.”
