Jonathan Martin ’08 pleaded not guilty to a total of five counts after he was linked to a threatening Instagram photo that caused school to close Feb. 23, according to ESPN.
The photo displayed a shotgun, ammunition and the hashtag #HarvardWestlake.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney charged the former NFL player with four counts of criminal threats and one count of possessing a loaded firearm, which was discovered in his car along with a knife and ax when he was detained in February.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Neetu S. Badhan-Smith set bail at $210,000. He also ordered Martin to stay away from both the middle and upper school campuses and the alleged victims, who include two former Harvard-Westlake classmates, until his court appearance April 25, according to the Los Angeles Times. If convicted, Martin could face up to six years in prison.
A judge also issued a restraining order banning Martin from entering the school’s campuses and coming near President Rick Commons March 1. A hearing scheduled Thursday could make the temporary order permanent for three years.
