Model UN unable to attend convention due to bad weather, airport closure

The Model UN club was unable to attend the National Convention going on from Feb. 13 to Feb. 16 in Washington, D.C. due to weather problems. Dulles International outside of Washington was closed and the flight was canceled before they could even board.

“It was of course disappointing not to be able to attend the conference, especially since we had prepared for it so much and since it would have been an incredible learning experience,” club member Sara Evall ’15 said. “However, there was no way to get to the conference, so it was very understandable that we could not attend.”

Despite the letdown, some members look to their preparation as having paid off.

“I know I, and all of our other delegates, put a lot of time and thought into preparing for the conference and it was very disappointing to find out that that work was unnecessary,” club president James Edward ’14 said. “At the same time, I personally found much of my research very interesting, so I don’t see the time I put in as a complete waste at all.”

The club will participate in two more conferences throughout the year and has already begun preparation. They will attend the Marymount MUN in March and McKenna MUN in April.
