Coffee House proceeds to benefit hurricane victims

Prefect Council will host a holiday-themed Coffee House with Community Council on Monday, Dec. 3. All proceeds from a name your own price sale of coffee and baked goods sold at the event will be donated to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Holiday-themed acts are suggested, but are not required in this year’s second Coffee House. Although students can sign up in advance by email, the event is open-mic and anyone will be able to perform.

“Community Council approached [Prefect Council] because they are having a community service week, and they wanted to incorporate a Coffee House to generate student hype and participation,” prefect Henry Hahn ’14 said. “The Coffee Houses have always been great school community events, and we have previously considered ways of incorporating a fundraising element into them, so this just seemed like a good fit.”

The Coffee House is a part of community service week, hosted by Community Council. Each day of the week will have a different theme, for example a day about Habitat for Humanity or the Special Olympics, in order to promote community service throughout campus, community council member Nicole West ’14 said. The week will begin with a Community Service Club Fair Monday at break where all the community service clubs will have a table, similar to Activities fair, to promote their cause.

“Our goal for the week is to get the word out about Community Council and make community service fun and enjoyable for everyone,” she said.
