Quarterback Marshal Cohen ’16 out for the season

MRI results show that starting quarterback Marshal Cohen ’16 tore his ACL in the season opener against Loyola, Football Program Head Scot Ruggles told The Chronicle. Consequently, Cohen is out for the rest of the season.

Cohen exited the rivalry game in the first quarter after being tackled. A clip of the play in which Cohen (#17 in black) gets injured from the HWTV broadcast of the game can be seen below.

Cohen is familiar with the injury, as this is the second time in three years he has suffered an ACL injury. As a sophomore, he tore both his ACL and his meniscus in a game against St. Paul. Cohen was sidelined for the remainder of that season, as well.

Noah Rothman ’16 has been named the new starting quarterback. Rothman was nursing a shoulder injury last week, however, and did not play in the Wolverines’ 44-23 victory over Jefferson.

Jake Grode ’19 started in Rothman’s place, and goes from third-stringer to second-stringer as a result of Cohen’s injury.

The injury marks the end of an illustrious, albeit short-lived, high school football career for Cohen, who led the Wolverines to a stunning victory over 35-point favorites Loyola in his varsity debut in 2013.
