Senior softball player commits to Cornell

By Luke Holthouse

Chloe Pendergast ’13 committed to play softball at Cornell last week. Pendergast pitched and played in the infield for the Mission League Champion Wolverines this season.

Cornell finished 25-23 overall in NCAA Division I softball competition. At 15-5 in Ivy League play, The Big Red was ranked as the third best softball team in the Ivy League by the NCAA.

Pendergast said that she visited Cornell last month after receiving a letter of interest from the team’s Head Coach Dick Blood. She said that she plans on studying at the School of Hotel Administration, which is listed as one of the “highly esteemed” programs in its field by US News & World Report Magazine.

“I visited Cornell and fell in love with the campus and the hotel school,” Pendergast said. “I loved the coaches and the players, and knew it was the perfect fit. I couldn’t be any happier with my decision.”

Pendergast hit .468 with a .506 on base percentage, a .722 slugging percentage, 21 runs scored and 32 runs batted in.

The softball team went 18-4-2 overall and 9-0-1 in league play last year, winning the Mission League Championship for the first time since 2002. The Wolverines beat Charter Oaks in the first round of Division III CIF playoffs by a score of 2-1 before being knocked out by Warren for the second year in a row by a score of 9-2 in the second round of playoffs.
