Six swimmers win Mission League events

By Michael Aronson

Six swimmers took home Mission League champion honors at Tuesday’s League finals meet at Los Angeles Valley College.

Andy Liu ’14, Kassie Shannon ’13 and Patrick Kang ’12 won the 200-meter individual medley, 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter breaststroke events respectively.

The meet was Kang’s final Mission League race, and he said it was nice to take the breaststroke title in his final opportunity with the Wolverines, especially because he beat his fellow Harvard-Westlake competitor John Copses ’14.

“[Copses] and I both knew that the race would come down to the two of us, and it was great to finally beat him,” Kang said. “Even though we are teammates, we are extremely competitive with each other, and I’m glad I came out on top.”

The girls’ 200-meter freestyle relay team of Shanshan Heh ’12, Kristen Lee ’12, Shannon and Sydney Wong ’14 also finished atop their league with a time of 1:43.70.

With the CIF masters meet recently cancelled by CIF, the Wolverines will head to their season’s final meets at CIF prelims and CIF this Wednesday and Thursday.
