Squad defeats Alemany at home to maintain five-game winning streak

The girls’ soccer team dismantled Alemany 3-0 tonight in a non-league matchup at home, bringing the girls’ record to 9-2-1 overall.  The girls are 3-0 in league after defeating Chaminade at home on Wednesday.

Though the first 30 minutes of the game were slow and left the scoreboard blank, Harvard-Westlake got the kickstart it needed to up the pressure during the first half’s stoppage time from a corner kick from Tiffany Guerra ’15 that turned into an own goal on Alemany.  After that, it was all over for Alemany, as the Wolverines maintained the heat for the rest of the game.  The first few minutes of the second half were representative of this Harvard-Westlake dominance; the ball never stayed on the Wolverines’ side of the field for more than 10 seconds.

As usual, goalie Lindsey Avant ’17 had a flawless goalie performance in which she made multiple diving blocks.

Nicole Araya ’16 scored the second goal halfway through the second half, and Ariana Miles ’17 put Alemany away with a third and final goal off of a cross from Montana Reilly ’16.  Even when Harvard-Westlake had the clear lead with only a few minutes left, the girls continued to maintain their dominance and good work ethic.
