Harvard-Westlake hosted a booth at the 25th Annual Sherman Oaks Street Fair today in an effort to become more involved with the community.

“[Our presence at the fair was to] create better relations with our immediate neighbors and our community,” said Stacy Marble, the school’s Director of Community and Public Affairs.

Students volunteered at the fair for community service hours, handing out popcorn, balloons and flyers for Homecoming. They also answered any questions people had about Harvard-Westlake.

At the booth, people could sign cards to affirm their support for the decision to build the parking structure, be listed as a supporter of the Parking, Safety and Athletic Improvement Plan and stay informed about the progress of the project.

“It was really nice to see people around the community,” volunteer Sohni Kaur ’17 said. “A lot of people were asking questions about the parking structure that they had heard about, and others just wanted to know more about Harvard-Westlake.”

The Harvard-Westlake Singers, four members of Chamber Singers, also performed at the fair.

Marble worked with Director of Student Affairs Jordan Church, who got her in contact with Adam Yaron ’16 and the Harvard-Westlake Singers.

Yaron, Elizabeth Gaba ’17, Henry Platt ’17 and Michael Edwards ’16 sang numbers including “Price Tag” by Jessie J and “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor featuring John Legend. They finished the set together with “Home” by Phillip Phillips.

“It was a great opportunity for the school to be part of the community and to showcase how wonderful our students are,” Marble said.
