Water polo loses to Loyola in buzzer-beater

The final 33 seconds of the Wolverines’ televised water polo match against rival Loyola likely ended the Wolverines’ hopes of capturing the Mission League title from the Cubs.

Both teams were tied 5-5 at halftime, going back and forth with the lead. With the score tied 11-11, the Wolverines had possession with 33 seconds remaining in the game.

They then turned the ball over and Loyola took a timeout with three seconds remaining in the game before converting a goal to beat the Wolverines at the buzzer

The loss drops the Wolverines to 14-8 on the season and 1-1 in the Mission League with five games remaining on their schedule.

Time Warner Cable broadcast the event, the first ever Wolverines water polo game to be televised.
