Wolverines suffer third consecutive loss

The Wolverines suffered a third consecutive loss, falling 49-7 to St. Francis.

For the third straight Friday night, the Wolverines defense was inconsistent, alternating between long scoreless stretches and quick touchdown drives.  After an early stalemate, the Golden Knights snapped the scoreless tie with a touchdown with 4:39 left in the first quarter.  This momentum would carry into the next quarter, where St. Francis scored 28 unanswered points.

The offense lacked rhythm throughout the game despite the coaching staff’s attempts to create a spark.  Quarterback Jameson Wang ’20 (8-14, 155 yards,1 TD) misfired on several early throws downfield, and receivers dropped key passes at crucial moments.  Halfback Thomas Glover ’18 broke free for a 78-yard catch-and-run touchdown late in the first half.  Glover replaced Wang as a change-of-pace quarterback at various intervals throughout the game, running the read-option.

The special teams unit was a mixed bag.  Kicker Josh Lyons ’17 had a punt blocked for the second straight game, leading to a touchdown recovery for St. Francis.  Brendan Kang ’20 made his first appearance as a kick returner, breaking off a long return in the first quarter.

The Wolverines play the next game on the road against LaSalle Oct. 28.
