    Choir to host festival

Bel Canto and Chamber Singers will perform in the Southern California Vocal Association festival at the Upper School tomorrow evening in Rugby.

“It’s a great concert,” Choral Director Rodger Guerrero said. “It’s my favorite because it’s the most intellectual music we do during the year, with more difficult music. The Hollywood music [at the Cabaret performance] is great and people will love the solos but it’s not particularly hard or challenging their ability as musicians. This concert does and because of that the people who go will be blown away by the level of sophistication.”

Though the festival is not a competition, students will sing alongside four other choirs from different schools and receive scores from SCVA judges. Harvard-Westlake has earned a “superior” rating every year it has performed.

“I am really looking forward to sharing our music with other choirs and hearing the music they produce,” Chamber Singer Ari Berman ’15 said. “We are singing some amazing pieces, one of which is in Tagalog, an indigenous language to the Philippines. It’s very upbeat and an absolute blast to sing.”
