Boys’ Water Polo sharp in season opener

Backed by a dominant performance from Johnny Hooper ’15, the Wolverines cruised to an easy 15-7 win over Murrieta Valley in yesterday’s season opener at Copses Family Pool.

Hooper led the team in scoring with five goals. Ben Hallock ’16 had three, and Duncan Froomer ’16 and Warren Snyder ’14 scored two apiece. Morio Saito ’15, Henry Clarke ’15, and Raphael Raede ’15 each scored once.
The Wolverines managed to keep the Nighthawks off theĀ boardĀ until halfway into the second quarter. By the time Murrieta Valley scored, the Wolverines were up by five goals.
Murrieta Valley scored twice in the second quarter, but were not ready to counter two quick goals from Hallock and Froomer. An additional three goals brought the score to 10-2 at the half.
The last two quarters were smooth sailing. Despite an additional five goals from Murrieta Valley, the Wolverines held the lead the entire game, and retaliated by scoring three goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth.
The Nighthawks are ranked second in CIF Division II, and are not expected to play Harvard-Westlake again this season.
The team plays next in the Santa Barbara Tournament on Sept. 20.
