After a heartbreaking one-goal loss to league rival Crespi on Wednesday, the varsity lacrosse team responded strongly with a boost from the return of Roman Holthouse ’15, defeating Thousand Oaks (4-2 overall, 2-0 in Marmonte League) on the road by a score of 12-10 on Thursday night.
The Wolverines went 1-2 in the three games that Holthouse missed, and the reigning Mission League co-player of the year wasted no time re-asserting himself as a dominant offensive force, leading the squad with four goals on the night. Aaron Drooks ’15 added three goals and three assists, and Tommy Park ’18 scored two goals of his own in the strong team performance, which was Harvard-Westlake’s first win over a top-10 team in the MaxLaxLA coaches’ poll in five attempts this season. (The Lancers entered the game ranked fifth in the poll, while the Wolverines were in seventh.)
Harvard-Westlake improves to 6-4 overall and remains 2-2 in Mission League play, and the Wolverines will get a long time off after Thursday’s clutch victory. The team does not play at all during the school’s two-week Spring Break period, as they are next in action in a Mission League matchup against Chaminade (3-5 overall, 1-3 in league). The Wolverines defeated the Eagles (ranked 13th in the most recent coaches’ poll) 10-8 in the teams’ first showdown at Chaminade on March 14th. The second matchup will take place at Ted Slavin Field on April 14th at 5:45 p.m., and will be live-streamed at the following link:
