Prefect Council hosted its annual Halloween costume contest on the Quad on Oct. 3. A panel of faculty judges evaluated student and faculty teams, scoring participants on a scale out of 10 for both creativity and originality.
Senior Prefect Rex Grube ’25 said the contest fostered school unity.
“I think the costume competition is a great way to build community here at the school due to its [ability to] entertain and competitiveness,” Grube said.
Leading up to Halloween, Prefect Council sent out emails on Oct. 11 and Oct.29, encouraging members of the community to participate in this year’s competition. A total of 10 groups, each comprising one to eight students or faculty members, registered as contestants.
After the judging panel tallied the contestants’ scores, they declared Nasib Kelley ‘25 the winner. Kelley wore a zombie costume inspired by the popular video game franchise “Plants vs. Zombies,” with his entrance into the Quad featuring him dancing to the game’s theme song. Among the four judges, two awarded him a perfect score of 10, while the other two recorded nines, collectively propelling him to victory.
Kelley said his costume was inspired by his love for the video game “Plants vs. Zombies” and by the fact that he already had everything he needed for the costume.
“I like playing ‘Plants vs. Zombies,” Kelley said. “I remembered [the game] the other week when I was choosing what to dress as, and I saw that I had all the material to dress as a zombie.”
Grube said he hopes that more students will join the costume competition in the future, due to the entertainment the event brings.
“I think that once people see just how fun this costume competition really is, I would hope that more people sign up in the future,” Grube said.
