Prefect Council hosted the annual dodgeball tournament in Taper Gymnasium beginning April 22. Each game was 10 minutes long, and whichever teams won two out of three matches advanced. The tournament began on April 22 and ended with the final round May 2. The final winner is still to be determined.
Senior Prefect Victor Suh ’25 said he decided to organize the event because of the impact it had on the school community.
“After the House Cup at the middle school, the dodgeball tournament is by far the most anticipated and most memorable tournament of the year,” Suh said. “So that was my reasoning for heading the dodgeball tournament.”
Suh said that the hardest part of refereeing the dodgeball tournament is knowing what call to make.
“Sometimes both teams are screaming, ‘Oh my gosh, she got out. Oh my gosh, she did not get out,’” Suh said. “In those situations, it’s quite impossible for you to know 100% what happened. I just have to go with my gut, and whatever my gut tells me, that’s the call that I make.”
Sophomore Prefect Jasiri Johnson ’27 said that he enjoyed taking part in the tournament because of the camaraderie built among team members.
“I’ve annually participated in the dodgeball tournament and always find it fun to play with and against friends,” Johnson said. “Something I’ve enjoyed was the team bonding, definitely being able to rely on my teammates. Trusting them, and collaborating in our pursuit of victory.”
Riley Romans ’27 said that as an onlooker to the tournament, she loved seeing the connection that the tournament forged.
“It’s the best seeing my friends get excited and get involved in the community,” Romans said. “It makes everything feel so much more fun.”
Player Avery Kim ’25 said the tournament brought back good memories from his middle school days.
“The dodgeball tournament was really fun and definitely a good bonding experience for me and my team even though we got beaten really badly in the first round,” Kim said. “It brought back memories of 7th and 8th grade PE class which was a nice blast from the past while we are ending our senior year.”
