The varsity girls’ soccer squad beat Lakewood High School 2-1 in the first round of CIF playoffs. The first goal was scored by Annabelle Heisel ’19, and the second by Paige Howard ’17.

This game was the best display of the team’s skill in this season so far. Many of the plays involved intricate footwork and hard thinking, and a large portion of the game was spent around the Lancers’ defense.

Lakewood’s only goal was caught by goalie Lindsay Avant ’17, and there was some confusion over whether the ball actually crossed the goal line or not. Though Avant believed she had saved it, Lakewood was still given the point.

Quinn Frankel ’16 had to be walked off at the very end of the game due to a leg injury.

The squad will play in second round of CIF playoffs on Feb. 23.
