Sephora Escarpeta-Garcia: Spanish

After teaching four different levels of Spanish over the course of fifteen years and serving as department chair at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Ohio, Sephora Escarpeta-Garcia will begin the school year teaching Spanish at the Upper School.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in education at City College of New York and went on to earn her master’s degree in Spanish literature from Ohio University.

“I really like doing hands-on and group projects and activities to integrate students with lower levels of Spanish,” she said.

Escarpeta-Garcia said that students who have less experience with the Spanish language motivate her to aim her teaching at the entire classroom, rather than to individuals.

Before she began to teach Spanish, Escarpeta-Garcia taught art at a public middle school in The Bronx.

Escarpeta-Garcia will be teaching Spanish 3, Spanish 3 Honors, AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature.

Escarpeta-Garcia said that she is excited to teach her new students in the upcoming year.

“The students’ creativity and how hard they try to speak the language really makes me happy,” Escarpeta-Garcia said.
