Oceanography and Marine Biology students visited the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, where they viewed exhibits of organisms they studied in their class March 19.

The class divided into smaller groups to view exhibits that displayed algae, sponges, mollusks and plants.

Students also attended a classroom session where they learned about proper filtration, the maintenance of fish tanks and the aquarium’s methods to keep their organisms healthy and alive.

The trip provided an opportunity for students to observe and further learn about oceanography outside the classroom, Allison Salvador ’19 said.

“Because I live in the valley, it can be hard to go to the beach and observe the things we learn about because of traffic,” Salvador said. “It was really awesome to interact with the animals that we learn about every day.”
