During their third Mission League game, the Varsity boys’ basketball team lost to Crepi High school after blowing a 12 point lead in the third quarter.
After a down to the wire game, the Wolverines ended up on the losing end with a final score of 75-70.
Coach Greg Hilliard hopes this team will take something from this loss. âWe have two more road games and we need to bounce back,â Hilliard said. âHopefully we can use this as a learning experience.â
Hilliard said that the teamâs youth is not an excuse for sloppy play over the course of the season.
During the third quarter, the Wolverines were outscored 27-9 and blew a 12 point lead.
âI told them âGuys weâre up 12. Itâs time to put the hammer down.â And I guess it wasnât the right thing to say,â Hilliard said about his half-time speech to his players.
According to Hilliard, the main problems during the third quarter were an excess of unnecessary fouls on defense and hasty, unproductive shots on the offensive end.
The Wolverines play their next game on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Chaminade and then travel to Loyola to face their league rivals on Friday, Jan. 12.
