After beating Brentwood 378-391 last Monday at Brentwood Country Club, the varsity boysâ golf team improved to 15-0 overall which includes a 10-0 record in league play.
Youth is prevalent throughout the team. Glen Scher â09 has led the team all season with eight first place finishes in 15 matches while Jeff Wibawa â10 and Jordan Lee â10 have shot under par multiple times throughout the season.
Before the the 378-391 victory over Brentwood, the Wolverines survived a match against league foe St. Francis at Lakeside GC, narrowly defeating them 198-194. Wibawa took first place overall with a one over 36, followed by Scher who shot 37.
Separate from the team, Scher finished fourth at the 2007 L.A. City Junior Golf Tournament held on April 2.Â
Over the three-day tournament, Scher finished with a cumulative score of 208, nine shots behind the winner. Because Scher was participating in the tournament, he missed two school matches.
The team also participated in the Second Annual Champions Invitation in Palm Springs on April 16, where they finished in fourth place. The field included defending state champion Cathedral Catholic of San Diego and defending CIF Southern Section champ Murrieta Valley, with nationally ranked junior Rickie Fowler.
Murrieta Valley won, followed by Cathedral Catholic, Brentwood and then the Wolverines.
Over spring break, the team defeated perennial powerhouse San Marcos of Santa Barbara 402-386 at La Cumbre Country Club. Scher finished first overall with a 74, while Wibawa shot 76 and Lee shot 77.
Yesterday, the Wolverines played a match against rival Loyola, but results werenât available at press time. The team will face Crespi on Friday.
