Queen of Qatar visits Upper School

Sheikha Mozah Bint Masser-Al-Missned, the current Sheikha of Qatar, a country that lies on the eastern border of Saudi Arabia, visited the Upper School Thursday May 17 to study its educational facilities, students and standards.

Accompanied by an entourage of police officers, officials from the state department and several attendants, Masser-Al-Missned began her tour of the campus at 9:30 a.m. She was shown around the school by Vice President John Amato, who was aided by Head Prefect Hailey Orr ’07 and Senior Prefect Nuriel Moghavem ’07.

The Sheikha, who became the First Lady of the country after marrying Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, became interested in education both for the sake of her nation and because of her role as a mother to her children who range from mid-teens to late 20’s. In addition to Harvard-Westlake, Masser-Al-Missned also visited Carlthorp School in Santa Monica during her visit to California.

Members of the state department, who were sent in as security for the Sheikha, parked several black Lincoln limos and one Hummer on the road that runs parallel to Munger Science Building
