Westlake alumna Anita May Rosentein â72 and her son Brian Rosentein â97, a Harvard-Westlake graduate, created a scholarship fund in memory of Barbara Welsh.
Welsh died in December.
The fund was announced May 5 by Vice President John Amato to a group of 200 alumnae during the Westlake reunion at the Middle School, where Welsh worked as a physical education teacher.
The fund will be called The Barbara Welsh Memorial Scholar Endowment Fund.
Rosenstein and her son approached the school with an interest in creating the fund. because they both had a personal relationship with Welsh and wanted to honor Welshâs longtime commitment to both Westlake and Harvard-Westlake with a scholarship fund in her memory.
Welsh started teaching physical education at Westlake in 1967 and continued as a coach until her death in December.
âIt seemed like an appropriate place and time to announce the scholar endowed fund,â Director of Alumni Relations Jill Shaw said.
The fund will be a financial aid fund to assist a female student with her school tuition.Â
Along with the newly created Barbara Welsh Memorial Scholar Endowment Fund, there are 31 other scholar endowed funds.
