Guest speaker talks to instrumental music classes

Professional clarinetist Bil Jackson visited orchestras and ensembles Oct. 24. Music teacher Shawn Costantino, who organized the visit, said Jackson is one of the top three clarinet players in the country.

Jackson conducted master classes for Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band.

Jackson is a classical clarinetist, and gave advice to the orchestras on specific types of technique. Emphasizing the importance of density, he spoke mainly to the winds sections.

Jackson gave more general advice on tonal quality, sound production and opportunities for summer programs to the jazz groups.

Jackson is a member of the Denver Symphony, and was on a music tour going through Los Angeles.
