For the first time since 1995, the girlsâ volleyball CIF Division III State Championship victory was not honored with a day off from school. This decision was made because the academic school calendar is shorter this year, Head of School Jeanne Huybrechts said. âWeâre asking students to learn a lot in a relatively short time, and I donât like reducing the number of teaching and learning opportunities in any given year,â Huybrechts said. The day known as âHonors Dayâ was given after the schoolâs state victories in 1995, 1997, and 1998 and honored the achievements of all athletes. In 2002, the name was changed to âChampions Dayâ to specifically honor the CIF champions. This yearâs decision to break the Champions Day tradition was made by Huybrechts. âIâm hoping that our on-campus âchampionsâ celebration will be the first of many similar spirit-building events centered around special achievements,â Huybrechts said.
