Amy Weissenbach
â12 became the girlsâ 800 meter state champion June 5 at Buchanan High in
Clovis. Weissenbach ran a time of 2:07.52, passing Savannah Camacho of
Templeton in the final 50 meters of the race.
There was some determination and some sheer panic
at the end,” Weissenbach told the Los Angeles Daily News after the race.
Weissenbach
edged her previous personal best time of 2:08.34, set the previous week at CIF
Masters. She also competed in the 1600 relay race at the state meet, helping
the Wolverines to an eighth place finish.
Only a
sophomore, Weissenbach became the second track and field state champion in
school history, following Lindsey Flacks â04âs title in the 3200 meter race in
2004.
Weissenbach
finished fourth in the Division IV cross country state championship race in the
fall.Â
