    ‘Amores Perros’ screened in Ahmanson

    By Allison Hamburger

Academy Award-nominated director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñaritu’s (Maria Gonzalez ’13) film “Amores Perros” was screened after school Monday in Ahmanson to promote the upcoming Harvard-Westlake Film Festival. Iñaritu will host the March 18 festival at the Arclight Hollywood Cinerama Dome.

“We thought it would be good for people to have some knowledge of Iñaritu’s films,” Film Festival adviser Cheri Gaulke said. Another of Iñaritu’s Spanish-language films, “Biutiful,” was nominated this year for an Oscar in Best Foreign Language Film.

This is the first time that the festival, in its eighth year, has organized a screening of a host’s film beforehand. Another new addition to the event is The Day After on March 19, which will be an opportunity for the festival filmmakers to meet one another and participate in workshops.

Nick Lieberman ’11 and Jacqueline Sir ’11 are the student co-directors of this year’s festival, with advisers Gaulke and Cinema Studies teacher Ted Walch. The event begins at seven, and tickets will be available at the door.
