The lacrosse team’s perfect season came to a close Tuesday with a 11-10 loss to Agoura in the first round of CIF playoffs.
The Wolverines defeated the Chargers 8-6 earlier in the season.
“We had an idea of what to do against them,” Evan Meister ’12 said. “It’s hard to leave like that, with that kind of loss.”
The Wolverines were down 10-6 with eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Trying to keep their final season alive, the senior leadership breathed life back into the squad during a timeout, Meister said.
“The team leadership picked up the team and we dug deep to get back in it,” he said.
With four goals in six and a half minutes, the Wolverines evened the score at 10 with one minute to play. Captain Cory Wizenberg ’11 scored two goals and assisted Meister twice during the Wolverines’ late run.
With the score tied and time running down, goalie Matt Mantel ’12 fought for a ground ball behind the cage. Aware that time was soon expiring, he attempted to clear the ball up the field. An Agoura player intercepted the heave and scored on an empty net with 0.1 seconds remaining in both the game and the Wolverines’ season.
