Baseball clinches first Mission League title, moves into CIF playoffs

By Judd Liebman

In the close Mission League title race, the baseball team came out on top with its 8-0 win over Crespi Thursday. This shutout gives the team a 10-2 league record, beating out Chaminade’s 9-3 record for the top spot in the league.

Jack Flaherty ’14 blanked Crespi in his six innings pitched while giving up only four hits. Flaherty had the support of big bats, as designated hitter Ryan Vanderschans ’12 went 4-4 and catcher Arden Pabst ’13 hit a three run double.

After Flaherty’s six innings, closer Connor Dillman ’11 came in and struck out the side in the seventh inning to finish off the Celts.

Chaminade lost its game against Notre Dame 2-1 tonight, giving the Wolverines sole possession of the Mission League title. The Wolverines move into the CIF playoffs with their first game on May 19 against a Division II opponent.
