Baseball opens three game win streak

By Judd Liebman

Trying to secure a Mission League title, the boys’ baseball team went into tonight’s game tied with Chaminade, and after both teams defeated their respective opponents, it will remain that way.

The Wolverines beat the Crespi Celts 4-3 behind pitcher Lucas Giolito’s ’12 three-hit complete game. Going into its last game of the regular season on Thursday against Crespi, the team is 9-2, tied with the Chaminade Eagles, who defeated Notre Dame 5-0 tonight.
In his Senior Night, right fielder Sam Horn ’11 hit a solo shot in the first inning to spark Wolverine offense. The team had seven hits, Giolito said.
In his complete game, Giolito only had one earned run, as the two others came off errors.

The team will finish its series and regular season against Crespi at LA Valley College. Should Chaminade and the Wolverines be tied for first place in the Mission League at the end of the regular season, a coin toss would determine the rankings in Division II for playoffs.
