Baseball vies for first place heading into final regular season series

By Judd Liebman

The young baseball team is in contention to win the Mission League title. Tied for first place with Chaminade, the team will face last place Crespi Tuesday and Thursday to finish out its season.

Behind five strong innings from pitcher Jack Flaherty ’14, the Wolverines beat the Loyola Cubs 6-1 on Friday. Flaherty gave up one run on five hits. The young pitcher kept his composure down the stretch and forced ground balls to get out of tight situations, striking out two straight to end the top of the third inning.

Closer Connor Dillman ’11 finished the Cubs off with 1-2-3 innings in both the sixth and the seventh.

The Wolverine offense was also on display against the 3-7 Cubs. The team had seven hits in its six innings at the plate.

The Wolverines’ series against 3-7 Crespi and Chaminade’s series against Notre Dame are the deciding factors for the Mission League title.
