Field hockey defeats Edison in season opener

    By Luke Holthouse

The varsity field hockey team opened its regular season with a 5-0 win against Edison High School this afternoon after not winning a game in a pre-season tournament in St. Louis last weekend. Co-captain Kristen Lee ’12 led
the team in scoring with two goals and had an assist. Michelle Choi ’12,
Sarah Markowitz ’12, and Lucy Putnam ’14 also added goals.

The Wolverines finished 0-3-1 in the Gateway Classic Tournament. Lee
said that the team was seeded in a very difficult group after last year’s
Wolverine team won the annual tournament. She also added that the hot
and humid weather in St. Louis affected the team’s
performance but helped prepare them for the equally hot temperatures in
    today’s game.

The team takes on Newport Harbor on Thursday.

“They’re generally a really big rival for us, they beat us in
semi-finals [of CIF Playoffs] last year so that should be a really
    interesting game,” Lee said.
