The girls’ volleyball team finished with a “competitor’s” title after winning the group stages at the Durango Fall Classic Tournament last weekend in Las Vegas. The Assumption Knights took home the gold this year.
After coming in first place in their pool on Friday morning, the team was defeated in the championship play-in round by Xavier Prep later that afternoon.
The following morning they lost to Vista Murrieta in the bronze bracket qualifiers en route to capturing the title for the very next bracket out of the total six, the “competitor” bracket .
“I think this tournament was a good experience for us because it exposed us to other really good teams that we hadn’t played before. it taught us that we need to take every opportunity and run with it, we cant let them slip by,” opposite hitter Arielle Winfield said.
The team will travel to Sherman Oaks to play in their first Mission League bout against the Notre Dame Knights (5-0) this Tuesday.
“With a few crucial wins under our belt, we have the momentum we need to get out there and start league off right by getting a solid win against Notre Dame,” outside hitter Victoria Pearson ’12 said.
