Volleyball wins on Homecoming 3-1 against Lakewood

By Michael Aronson and Charlton Azuoma

The girls’ volleyball team beat the Lakewood High School Lancers in four games at Homecoming on Saturday to improve to a 7-10 overall record.

The girls came back from being down 23-2o to win a close first game 32-30. With the momentum on their side, the Wolverines jumped out to an early 17-9 lead in game two. Outside hitter Jackie Beyer ’13 was instrumental in closing out and winning the second game 25-15.

After dropping the third game 19-25, the Wolverines bounced back to finish off the match in the fourth, narrowly winning 25-22.

“Beating Lakewood was an incredible victory,” libero Katie Price ’12 said. “They knocked us out of CIF last year so to beat them in front of family and friends at Homecoming was the sweetest feeling.”

Co-captain Lucy Tilton ’12 missed the game due to a shoulder injury and will be undergoing surgery in the near future. The Columbia commit is set to be back for subsequent games in the rest of her senior season.

The Wolverines are scheduled to take on Chaminade and Louisville this week on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. They have a string of seven upcoming league matches until Oct. 27 with games against Alemany, Louisville and Flintridge.
