Girls’ cross country takes third in state, seniors place in top three individually

By Julius Pak

Despite a top three finish last Saturday at State Finals, the girls’ cross country team was unable to reach their goal of capturing a state title, which has eluded them on the 5000-meter course at Fresno’s Woodward Park for years.

In the last cross country race of their high school careers, Cami Chapus ’12 and Amy Weissenbach ’12 finished their runs together in 17:57 to take second and third places. Chapus, the reigining state champion, missed out on a second consecutive title by 0.11 seconds to Scotts Valley junior Vanessa Fraser, although Chapus had the edge on Fraser halfway through the race. Overall, the Wolverines finished in third, behind J. Serra and San Lorenzo Valley.

Aaron de Toledo ’12, the sole member of the boys’ team to qualify for State, finished in sixth place, one of the best boys’ individual results in program history.
