The boys’ soccer team (8-3-1) secured a playoff berth by defeating the Alemany Warriors (1-8) on the road by a score of 2-1.
Both teams had some opportunities in the first half but neither could effectively capitalize on them.
The second half started out well for the Wolverines . Ten minutes into the half, defender Akosa Ibekwe ’13 volleyed in a corner kick that put the team up by one against their Mission League opponent.
“It felt great. Theres nothing like scoring a goal for your school, especially because I dont get many scoring opportunities,” Ibekwe ’13 said.
However momentum quickly swung in a matter of seconds in favor of the Warriors as the Wolverines’ defense momentarily collapsed, allowing for Alemany to even up the game 1-1.
About ten minutes after that, the Wolverines put the game away with a goal scored by Jack Temko ’14 off a free kick from the top of the box, along with some solid defense.
The team wraps up their Mission League season with two wins in a row, enough to earn them a second place in league play. The Wolverines look forward to CIF playoffs next week.
