Baseball falls short in Alemany finale

After a pair of victories fueled by strong offensive performances, the baseball team suffered its first loss of the season in a sweep-thwarting shutout by Alemany.

The team had started its season undefeated, compiling a 7-0 record in the Easton Tournament and the first two games of the series. Converting on strong performances from right-handers Sam Peacock ’17 and Sam Hliboki ’19, the squad scored a combined 15 runs over those first two games.

“Our defense played really well and once again our bats were able to come through with some runs,” Hliboki said after Wednesday’s victory.

In Friday’s matchup, however, Alemany right-hander Blaine Traxel stymied the Wolverines offense, hurling a complete-game shutout.  Wolverines starter Ben Gieger ’17 recorded the loss.

The team will play a three game series against Chaminade next week, beginning with a 3:30 home game Tuesday, broadcasting live at HWTV.
