Boys basketball defeats Loyola High School in dominant victory

The boys basketball team beat Mission League rival Loyola High School 61-38 Saturday. The Wolverines defeated the Cubs for the first time this season, bringing the team to 2-0 in league play and 5-2 overall.

Standout performances from guard Adam Hinton ‘21 with 27 points and center Truman Gettings ‘21 with 14 points led the Wolverines to the dominant victory. The team now holds a 5-2 overall record.

The Wolverines made a defensive statement as they were able to hold the Loyola Cubs to just 38 points, the Cubs’ season-low for scoring.

After falling behind in the first quarter and only scoring four points, the Wolverines seemed to find their rhythm as the game continued. The team led by eight points after the first half before pulling away and outscoring Loyola 41-26 in the second half of the game.

Guard Cameron Thrower ‘22 said he was impressed with the team’s ability to fight back after a poor performance in the first quarter.

“The game tonight showed that our team is resilient and that when we couldn’t get it going in the first half, we stuck with it and got better in the second half,” Thrower said. “This season is not normal and day by day we are getting better. We hope to have a great season from this point on and hopefully have some great success in the playoffs.”

The Wolverines will face Alemany High School next in another Mission League matchup on April 14.
