When Alex Weber was named Interim Lacrosse Program Head in January, he knew that he wanted to postion himself to secure the job for the long term. After reaching the CIF Championship game and shaping the program with his efforts to preach hard work, team cooperation and simply having fun, the formerly temporary Head has been granted the title he desired: Weber will coach the varsity lacrosse team and oversee the entire Harvard-Westlake lacrosse program full-time, as the athletic department announced in a press release Monday.
“I feel great about the season,” Weber said. “We had some stumbles in the middle portion but really turned it on down the stretch. Now that we all know that caliber is in us, no reason why we can’t make it the standard. And we will,” he said.
Weber, who took over the program after former coach Jay Pfeifer resigned, led the team to a 15-4 record on the year.
“What he has accomplished with our program in a very short amount of time is simply tremendous,” Head of Athletics Terry Barnum said in the press release . “We know we have the right person to lead our program and we are excited about our future.”
The team returns three members of both the All Mission League First Team, as well as the Second Team, next season, highlighted by Mission League Player of the year Jack Temko ’14.
“My heart’s with Harvard Westlake Lacrosse 100%,” Weber said. “I think it’s about time LA took down OC in the Cali champ game. It’s one heck of a tough road, and we’re up for the challenge.”
