Softball pitcher Chloe Pendergast ’13 and swimmer Kassie Shannon ’13 were honored as members of the Daily News’ All-Area First Teams for their respective sports this week.
The Cornell University commit Pendergast led the Wolverines to an 11-2 record while notching down a 1.63 ERA and a .438 batting average. Moreover, Pendergast pitched three no hitters this season, but the squad exited their CIF playoff run in the second round against Colton. Along with the Daily News’ selection, Pendergast was named to the All-CIF Divsion III Softball First Team on Tuesday.
Shannon, who won the Lee Carlson award for athletics this year, was a four-year varsity athlete for the girls’ water polo and swim teams in her high school career, and will look to continue the aquatic sports at Davidson College. Although the water polo team did not reach its goal of capturing a third straight CIF title this year, Shannon won the Mission League title in the 100 freestyle and came tenth in the CIF Division one contest for swimming.
While Shannon began high school as primarily a water polo player, she joined a club swim team in 11th grade, which allowed her swimming career to take off.
“I will continue to swim with my club through the summer and swim in meets with them,” Shannon said. “Collegiate swimming will definitely be a level up from what I am doing now, but hopefully it won’t be too much more difficult.”
