Track and field phenom Courtney Corrin ’16 can now check “National Champion’” off her list of titles to earn after winning the girls’ long jump championship at the New Balance Nationals Outdoors meet in Greensboro, N.C. Sunday. Corrin’s winning jump of 20 feet, 7 1/4 inches matched the meet record for girls’ long jump.

In April, Corrin set the national freshman record of 20-11, and had set a goal to jump 21 feet.

“I wish I had jumped better, but I thought it was a great experience,” Corrin told the Daily News. “I know I have 21 feet in me. It just has to be the right meet and the right time and the right day.”

Corrin’s victory gave Harvard-Westlake its third national title for track, both others coming in 2011.

Ben Gaylord ’13 and Alex Florent ’15 also competed at the New Balance Nationals in pole vault and high jump, respectively.

Gaylord placed 10th, clearing 15 feet and 2 1/4 inches, while Florent was 14th with a high jump of 5 feet and 4 1/2 inches.
