The Girls’ Water Polo team rolled Charter Oak 15-8 in the first round of CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs at the Copses Family Pool, advancing to the quarterfinals and keeping their title dreams alive.
The Wolverines started off the game strong, jumping to a 5-1 lead off of multiple goals scored by Sydney Cheong ’14. The Chargers scored their second goal, but the Wolverines were quick to retaliate and made the score 8-2 at the half. Three quick consecutive goals by the Charger offense made the score 9-5, but they were unable to catch up and the Wolverines pulled away with another six goals. Charter Oak would only score three more goals for the rest of the game.
Cheong led the Wolverines with 10 goals and Sophia Gonzalez ’15 followed with another four. Hannah Elliot ’16 also scored one goal.
The Wolverines will face the winner of the Upland-Peninsula matchup in the quarterfinals Feb. 22. The game will be away. The Wolverines are the first seed out of the Mission League and ranked third overall in the tournament.
